I understand that reaching out for therapy can be daunting and so I have put together some of the most commonly asked questions to help you get a feel for what to expect. If there is anything else that you would to ask me, I would love to hear from you - you can email me or send a message via my contact page.

For counselling to be most effective, we usually begin with weekly or fortnightly sessions - we can work more flexibly over time.
If weekly or fortnightly sessions are difficult due to financial or personal commitments, we can explore what pattern might work best.

Do you offer any reduced cost counselling sessions?
I understand that personal circumstances can sometimes make counselling hard to access.
To support this, I offer a limited number of reduced-rate online sessions (£40 p/h) for unpaid mothers or those on maternity leave who may find payment of my standard fees challenging.
I offer a reduced rate for students.

Do i need counselling?
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some of the most common include:
1. Emotional distress/ mental health symptoms (for example anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, low self-esteem)
2. Relationship or interpersonal difficulties (for example work related issues, family conflicts or relationship difficulties)
3.Life transitions (becoming a parent, experiencing loss, navigating menopause, life changes)
4.Personal growth and understanding (Wanting to understand yourself better, explore meaning and purpose, or create space for reflection).

And for some people, it’s none of these — they simply want time for themselves and a space to talk with someone who will listen without judgement.

I believe there is a power in putting your experiences into words with someone who will listen with compassion and help you to find clarity, perspective and find a path forward that feels right for you.

How long will I need to see a counsellor for?
There’s no set number of sessions — everyone’s needs are different.
Some people work with me for a short period (around 4 - 6 sessions) while others choose to work together for longer.
You're welcome to book a block of sessions and then take a break.

For counselling to have a positive outcome, it does require a certain amount of commitment, particularly at the start of our time together - I therefore ask that clients commit to weekly / fortnightly sessions, where possible. We can then review the frequency together as we go.

When do you recommend specialist support?
There are some situations where another service or therapist may be better placed to support you. These include:
1. Anyone under18
2. Couples therapy
3. Current alcohol or substance misuse, or other addictions
4. Recent psychiatric or psychological diagnoses such as schizophrenia, psychosis, or paranoia
5. A long-term history of involvement with mental health services
6. Family therapy needs
7. Disordered eating
8. Active suicidal thoughts or crisis within the last six months
If it becomes clear that specialist support would be more helpful, I will always discuss this with you sensitively. I’m also happy to guide you towards appropriate services so you can access the support that is right for you.

What happens if I cancel?
If you need to cancel a session, please send me an email or text me as soon as you can.
To keep your regular appointment time reserved, sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice (or missed entirely) will still need to be paid for in full.
I'll always try to find an alternative session for you that week if possible, subject to availability.

You can email me here to cancel a session.

Connection call
I offer a FREE 15 - 20 MINUTE CONNECTION CALL

We can have a brief, informal chat — online or by phone — to explore whether working together feels like the right fit for you. This isn’t a therapy session, it is just an opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for how I work.
Book your connection call HERE

You’re welcome to explore the rest of my website, where you’ll find more about me, what to expect, online therapy, outdoor therapy and in-person counselling.

Connection Session
After the initial call, you can either book a Connection Session with me or you can go away and take some time to think things over.

During this first Connection Session, I will be interested to hear your reasons for seeking counselling, what you are looking for and what your hopes are for any sessions we have together. If you have had therapy before, you might also want to talk about what worked and what didn't work for you. Again, you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions. I will also need to ask you some basic questions about your circumstances and we will cover practical things such as confidentiality and its limits in more detail.

Finally, I want to add that I know how daunting it can feel to reach out for counselling, particularly the sense of not knowing where to start or what to expect, but if you are reading this, remember that you have already taken the first step ... and also know that I will offer you a safe, warm and welcoming space for whatever it is that you bring.
