Person centred counsellor

Hi, I'm Hattie

I live in East Sussex and I'm a mum to 2 small boys. When I'm not working, you will find me outside walking on the South Downs, wandering through local woodland or by the Sussex Coastline.  I feel at home when I am being warmed by a campfire!

My path to counselling began after I experienced a traumatic loss a number of years ago. I know first - hand how overwhelming it can feel when life falls apart in unexpected ways, and how hard it can be to make sense of what is happening.  Having the opportunity to talk to an independent professional, helped me to make sense of my experiences and to navigate my way through a very difficult experience.

It was this experience that inspired me to change career in mid-life and I re-trained as a person - centred counsellor.  It is a journey which has helped me to develop a new way of being and, as a form of therapy, person - centred counselling never ceases to inspire me in the ways in which it can help others to find clarity, to develop self -awareness and to find purpose in life.

I am a fully qualified, insured and registered psychotherapeutic counsellor and completed training which is approved by The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I’m a registered member of BACP and i'm listed on their register of therapists

Alongside my private practice, I work for Release Counselling and Therapy for Women in Brighton, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of women across East Sussex. My work includes both one-to-one counselling and facilitating therapeutic groups — supporting mums and birthing parents and women navigating peri-menopause and menopause.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over a decade working as a lawyer. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the pressures many women face in demanding professional environments, especially when balancing work with family life. It also means I work with a strong commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and supporting clients from all backgrounds.

In addition to running my counselling practice, I'm also a trauma- informed yoga nidra teacher and I offer classes and retreats locally. Yoga Nidra is a calming and restorative  practice and I'm interested in how embodied practices and breathing techniques can support our emotional wellbeing. If grounding techniques or breathwork feels like it might be helpful for you, we can explore integrating this into our sessions.
