Maternal Wellbeing
I have a specialism in the mental health of mums and supporting mothers / birthing parents with any challenges relating to parenthood - including postnatal support and the parenting journey.
The first years after having a baby are seen in society as being the most happy time of life, yet for many mums it is a time when you may be feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, anxious and isolated. You may be exhausted, lacking in confidence, struggling to cope or experiencing relationship struggles ... or perhaps you want space to reflect on your own family dynamic and the way you were parented.
I understand the unique challenges and emotional complexities that come with the transition to motherhood and I offer a supportive and nurturing space where you can talk through any issues surrounding motherhood and / or the experience of becoming a mum / birthing parent.
I help mums / birthing parents with:
-
Post-natal anxiety
-
Low mood/ feeling sad that things are not how you expected them to be
-
Social isolation /social anxiety
-
Changes in sense of identity
-
Feelings of overwhelm / fatigue
-
Putting everyone else's needs before your own.
-
Feelings of worthlessness/not good enough/low self-image
-
Mum guilt / mum rage
-
Family issues / exploring relationships with own parents/siblings
-
Not wanting to pass behaviours on to children
-
Mum guilt / mum rage
Our work together may include:
- Gaining clarity around what is going on for you
- untangling complex thoughts and feelings
- reflecting on what is going on for you, but also on the things that may lie underneath your experiences
- Exploring how you can connect with your own needs, rather than just meeting the expectations of others
- Finding new perspectives / gaining new insights
- developing greater self-awareness
- building self- confidence / feeling more empowered to make changes
We will discuss your hopes for counselling from the outset and agree an approach that is tailored towards your needs.
I have worked at a Brighton-based women's counselling charity for a number of years, supporting women's mental health during their most challenging life transitions, including becoming a mum. I work as a support group facilitator, facilitating group discussions around body image, changing friendships, relationships, identity and more ...
and I have supported many mums in the postnatal period over the past few years.
I am also part of The Birth Collective - a wonderful resource for all things related to pregnancy, birth and postnatal support in Lewes. I am on their directory of recommended practitioners.- www.birthcollective.uk.

We can have a brief, informal chat — online or by phone — to explore whether working together feels like the right fit for you. This isn’t a therapy session, just a relaxed opportunity to ask any questions and to get a feel for how I work.
There is no obligation to book any sessions afterwards.
